Donar Bread & Deli | Itaewon | Seoul Cafe Reviews

This year I have the opportunity to experience Lunar New Year in Asia for the first time and on Lunar New Year Eve, lots of businesses are closing to celebrate with their families. This left me, someone with no familiarity with this holiday, in a situation where all I could do is wander around and look for businesses on my cafe list that are still open despite the festivities.

Luckily for me, not too long after starting my journey for the day, I found a street lit up with some small businesses that were still open; Donar being one of them that I had had my eye on for a bit.

The items I tried today:

  • Philly Cheese Sandwich (chef’s choice): 16,000 Won

  • Night Berry Smoothie: 7,100 Won

Philly Cheese Sandwich (chef’s rec.)

Due to this being the recommended dish, this is what I ordered!

Delivery took a bit but the food was worth the wait! The beef was savory & well-made plus there wasn’t too much cheese like many Philly cheese steak sandwiches tend to have. The drizzle on top was a nice surprise, I’m not sure what it was but it’s nice to see unique takes to classic dishes. I think it was an oil of some type but I’m not sure.

The bread was also phenomenal and I can see why this deli also doubles as a bakery. The inclusion of a side of veggies was also nice, it can be hard to get your fill of fruits & veggies here in Seoul so it’s appreciated.

Score:

9/10 Chef’s choice and Taiyou’s too.

Night Berry Smoothie

The smoothie was really good too! There was no chunkiness & the blend was really smooth.

I loved how sweet it is because it covers the taste of lemon. I’m not sure if it’s made to order or if it’s pre-made. I didn’t hear it being made & it came out quickly.

Score:

9/10, but I haven’t had juice in awhile so maybe I’m biased since I was craving a nice juice smoothie.

Closing thoughts:

The location is small & very indie-feeling. It’s on the second floor of this back street so it’s pretty easy to miss it. Also, there were 3 dogs just roaming around the restaurant in case that matters to you or if you have allergies.

Ultimately, the food was really good but maybe not a place to go for Instagrammable pictures of the venue.

(On your way up and down the stairs be sure to watch your head)

Gallery:

Not too many extra images this time! It was a bit of a tight space and it was hard to get pictures of the interior without feeling like it looked as if I was photographing the people rather than the space.
