Epihaus Review | Yongsan | Seoul Cafe
With the weather starting to warm up, I went out for a long photo walk and found myself looking for a quiet cafe or restaurant to sit down and recharge. That’s how I ended up at Epihaus in Yongsan.
I ordered the Signatures, an Earl Grey & Lemon Scone and Nut Cream Latte with oat milk. The barista was nice and spoke fluent English! Though as he handed me my food, he recommended drinking the latte with a straw but didn’t elaborate… lol.
Nut Cream Latte - 6,800₩
The cream on top is sweet and tastes like a candy bar, but I can’t quite put my finger on which one. The cream is nice and thick, while the latte underneath is really smooth and not bitter at all. It’s kind of surprising. It does have some thickness to it and doesn’t seem watery, but the coffee flavor isn’t too strong. The foam on top is fun, though unsurprisingly it’s the highlight of the drink.
Score:
4/10 I’m not sure coffee drinkers want a latte that lacks distinct flavor, and if you’re looking for something sweet and creamy, it’s hard to imagine ordering such a mild latte would be the go-to way to satisfy that urge.
Earl Grey & Lemon Scone - 5,800₩
The scone has a nice crunchy texture with the earl grey taste having a hint of citrus. It includes lemon custard and lemon icing. The icing is plentiful and sweet but isn’t overbearing with the citrus taste. The custard, on the other hand, has a very strong, mouth-puckering citrus flavor while also being lightly sweet.
When eating all three together, they balance out well.
Score:
8/10 The icing isn’t too sweet, nor is the custard too sour, and their moisture offsets how scones can be dry.
Final Thoughts:
I went into this cafe expecting the typical affair I’ve noticed with lots of cafes here in Seoul. Decent drink, a pastry I’m less than stoked with and quickly seeing myself out once my devices are charged.
I’ll admit this time around it was a bit of a surprise with the drink falling through and not being up to par with what I’ve had here and a lemon pastry actually being good. As someone who is a citrus hater I couldn’t believe it actually was a nice treat that I enjoyed. I don’t know if this is a cafe I’d go out of my way to visit again but for anyone who really likes Lemon & Earl Gray pastries, the scone here is worth a try.
Random note: The bathroom is equipped with a very low ceiling… watch out T~T. But at least the sink is pretty.
